Thornton Creek Principal

This recommendation follows an extensive hiring process that included several phases: input from students, staff members, and parents regarding the qualities sought in the next principal of Thornton Creek; review of more than 100 applicants, screening interviews with the Central Office Leadership Team, full panel interview including representation from Thornton Creek parents, teachers, and elementary/central office administrators; a tour led by Thornton Creek students; a final interview;  and extensive reference check.  Mr. Jewett emerged as an exceptional candidate with a range of experience as a teacher, instructional leader and administrator, along with depth of knowledge, and a focus on students and learning.

Mr. Jewett, a Northville resident and Moraine Elementary School parent, has been employed by Plymouth-Canton Community Schools since 2007 as a teacher, summer school director, and student support coordinator. Mr. Jewett is well-versed in instruction, curriculum, data-driven decisions and continuous improvement, while also sharing a passion for The Leader in Me school-wide model for leadership and learning, and whole-child focus.  Mr. Jewett applies an inclusive, solutions-based approach to leadership with staff, students, and families.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and his administrator credential through Michigan State University.  He also completed a Master of Arts degree in Teaching through Wayne State University.

Mr. Jewett is thrilled with the opportunity to serve as an educational leader in Northville.  He looks forward to building on the already rich traditions in place at Thornton Creek and working in partnership with a Thornton Creek staff and community that embraces a shared vision to educate the whole child – not just academically, but socially and emotionally.

We look forward to welcoming Mr. Deagon Jewett to Thornton Creek Elementary School and Northville Public Schools!

Sincerely,

Mary Kay Gallagher,

Superintendent
